The Technology Mission on Cotton, Mini Mission-I was launched in February, 2000 alongwith other three Mini Missions with a special consideration to improve cotton production and productivity with internationally competitive fiber quality.

The Technology Mission on Cotton, Mini Mission-I was initiated with financial outlay from Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India and implemented by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research through the National Agricultural Reseach Syatem comprising of ICAR Instituions and State Agricultural Universities.

The Mini Mission -I Programmes are designed to conducte work on basic, applied and strategic aspects of cotton research to bring forth tangible outcome, in a mission-mode that could be widely practised immediately by cotton growers in all the three cotton growing zones of India.

The Central Institute for Cotton Research at Nagpur will be the Nodal Agency for executing the approved and planned research projects under Mini Mision - I. It would monitor the research activities, assigned to each participating centre.
